Dr. Adam Schechner

Adam J. Schechner, MD is a retired general surgeon with more than 25 years of experience in clinical medicine, trauma surgery, clinical research, and healthcare consulting. Throughout his career, he has combined extensive frontline patient care with expertise in evidence-based medicine, clinical investigation, and healthcare quality.

After earning his Doctor of Medicine from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, Dr. Schechner completed his surgical residency and devoted his entire career to the practice of trauma and general surgery. While caring for critically sick and injured patients, he saw and developed an appreciation for a broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions affecting adults across the lifespan, including the complex medical, functional, and social issues commonly encountered in older adults. His experience caring for geriatric patients has provided a deep appreciation for the challenges of multimorbidity, polypharmacy, frailty, cognitive impairment, and care coordination across multiple healthcare settings.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Schechner has extensive experience in clinical research and drug safety, serving as a physician leader in pharmacovigilance for clinical trials involving vaccines, biologics, and other investigational therapies.

As a consultant with the Care Navigation Collaborative, Dr. Schechner brings a unique perspective that combines decades of clinical experience with a deep understanding of healthcare systems, care coordination, and evidence-based practice. His background in caring for medically complex patients, including older adults with multiple chronic conditions, enables him to help patients and families navigate complex medical challenges with empathy and compassion.
